Harbor had recently found herself employed. After meeting the owner of the Ocean's Song Tavern, a gorgeous woman by the name of Kieran, she had been offered a job as a waitress as the tavern had been in need of more help. Harbor didn't necessarily like being tied down by something like a job, but she liked Kieran so she had accepted. Besides, she was rather good at it.
Now just about anyone can be good at serving food and drinks, she wasn't even the one making the stuff, but Harbor was good and bringing in more coin than the average waitress. She knew just the right games to play and just the right amount of flirtations to get the customers to pay more than they would have otherwise. In a lot of ways, she actually really enjoyed the job. She knew how to make it fun.
Today was a pretty average day. It wasn't overwhelming crowded but it certainly wasn't dead either. Harbor flitted around the tavern with ease and a smile, bouncing on her heels as she waited at the bar for her drink orders to be filled. She chatted with Kieran whenever she was there. A new customer entered the tavern and sat down at one of the tables. Harbor took her filled drinks on a tray and passed by the new guest. "I'll be right there, Handsome." She said with a grin and wink to the man who had sat down, her hand briefly touching his shoulder before she passed by him to deliver drinks to a nearby table.
She then moved back to the new patron. "Alrighty now, what can I get for ya?" She asked the man as she looked down at him from beside the table, the tray now tucked under her arm.

Merek entered the bar in a hurry, just barely managing to slip through as the door was shutting behind someone else. He pressed his back against the wall and sidled up to the nearest window, peering out ever so carefully. The sound of hurried footsteps faded into the distance. With a sigh of relief, Merek stepped away from the wall and fixed his collar. His brown eyes glanced around the room. It seemed as though nobody particularly noticed his dramatic entrance. The doctor was known to be quite theatrical from time to time, so perhaps nobody thought anything of it. He decided he might as well sit down for a drink or two now.
After finding a seat at the nearest table, he flinched when a hand touched his shoulder, but immediately felt silly once he realized it was just the barmaid. His brow raised as she sauntered on by and he was able to look her up and down. He was certain she was the girl who was singing and dancing on the tables just the other day. Merek had been close to buying her a drink when he overheard that another man had already beat him to it. Figuring it would be too cliché anyways, the doctor decided to cut his losses and leave. He would never expect her to start working here though.
When she returned, he leaned back in his seat and peered up at her with a curious grin. ”Now I would recognize that melodious voice anywhere. I’m guessing your lively performance the other day is what landed you a job here?” He asked. ”Well I hope to hear more from you soon... Please tell Kieran I’ll take an Old Fashioned.” He looked past the waitress and gave the bar owner a little wave.
Harbor was a little surprised when the man expressed that he recognized her, not just her but her voice. She hadn't been intending to impress anyone that day with her talent for singing, she was just having a good time. She returned his grin. "Never did hurt to spice up the party a little." She answered. "I can offer singing and a whole lot more, darlin'." She added with a playful wink.
Noting that he had used the owner's first name, Harbor could guess that he was a regular here at the Ocean's Song Tavern, she'd have to remember that. She nodded with a smile at his drink request. "Be right back." She assured him before walking towards the bar and giving Kieran the man's order.
As she waited she turned around and leaned against the bar, not even attempting to hide that she was looking at the man. He had least had her attention enough to be curious, certainly more than Fionn had done. Kieran handed her the drink in a few short moments and Harbor returned to the table and set the drink down in the front of the man. "An Old Fashioned." She said. She opened her mouth to say more when another guest called for her attention. "Enjoy." She said to Merek, glancing once over her shoulder as she moved a couple tables away to help another customer.

A whole lot more, huh? Merek would’ve loved to take her up on that offer, but he knew better than to get too invested in a barmaid. Their tips depended on flirting after all, and she was probably used to men falling at her feet with a bat of her pretty blue eyes. However, when he glanced up from his fingernails he couldn’t help but notice her blatantly staring at him from across the room. He quickly looked back down, but couldn’t hide the bashful smile that spread across his face. Perhaps he had genuinely caught her interest after all.
He waited eagerly for her to return with his drink so that he could press the conversation further, but she came just as quickly as she left. The doctor lifted his glass to her in thanks just as she turned to help the next customer. He took a sip from his drink while eyeing the person who dared to steal her attention. On the plus side, his beverage was good as always.
Then he thought of an idea. If his drink was empty, she would obviously need to come tend to him. Merek knew that he could chug at least three or four drinks before the alcohol really began to set in. He lifted the glass to his lips once more. Luckily an Old Fashioned is never that tall, so he was able to down it fairly quickly. When he set the empty glass back down, he could see the customer at the other table giving him a look, as if they knew what he was up to. Merek flashed them a cheeky smile. He was always down for some friendly competition. Not wanting to bother the petite blonde, he waited patiently for her to make her rounds again.
Harbor felt as if she could feel the man's eyes on her as she spoke with the other patron, or maybe she was just hoping. She couldn't exactly put her finger on why he was so interesting to her, not yet. But he was handsome and he wasn't a drunken fool so that was at least a step up from the other night with Fionn. She was plenty used to people flirting and vying for her attention, so why did this man stand out? She wanted to find out.
All the other table wanted was refills and it was quick to fill, upon delivering them she turned to check on the other man again to find that his drink was already empty. She raised her eyebrows in surprise and smirked as she approached his table once more. "That was fast. Are you just very thirsty or trying to drown away your sorrows?" She asked with a flirty smile. "I can help with both." She added.
"Would you like a refill?" She then remembered to ask though there were plenty of others things that she would have preferred to ask him right about now. Like his name for one and who he was for another. Yes, a name was certainly very different from who a person actually was.

Merek chuckled inwardly at the expression on the waitresses’s face upon noticing that his drink was already gone. He watched her approach with a sly grin. She was good at teasing, and he liked it. Shy girls were never really his thing.
“What can I say?” He shrugged. “She knows how to make a good drink.” Not that he didn’t actually have any sorrows to be drinking away at the moment, but that was surely another story for another time.
He gingerly placed the empty glass in her hand. For a moment he wondered what she would be like outside of work. Was she always making such suggestive remarks?
”A refill would be most appreciated, miss... What’s your name, if you don’t mind me asking? I come here quite often, so we might as well get the formalities out of the way now.” Yes, the doctor didn’t like to waste any time, and he knew it would only be a few more moments before the waitress was whisked away again.
Harbor grinned. "That she does." She agreed. Kieran had done more than inherit the tavern from her family, it was like she was made for it. She was everything a tavern owner should be and so much more. Harbor wanted to get to know the woman much more deeply than she currently did but this job also gave her the time to do it.
Harbor took the offered glass and briefly placed her hand over his forearm, dragging her fingers along his skin as the pass was completed. Oh yes, it was very intentional. She could feel the course hairs of his arm beneath her hand and the temperature of his skin, his hand colder as it was wrapped around the glass that was still slightly wet from the condensation on the outside of the cup.
Harbor parted her lips to offer her name but then smirked playfully at him. "You first." She said with a grin, her teeth dragging slowly along her bottom lip in an impish manner, taking her time to chat with him and to get his refill.

Merek raised a brow at the blonde as she caressed his forearm, a playful gleam in his eyes. Now this just wasn’t fair. He knew he couldn’t return the gesture, or he could risk getting kicked out. Besides, he would never want to be one of those men to take advantage of a woman while she was at work with nowhere else to run. He may have been a flirt, but he always tried to be aware of when he was overstepping his boundaries. Then again, he didn’t particularly mind letting her make all of the advances anyways.
”Most refer to me as Dr. Raolin, but you may call me Merek.”
He would’ve offered to shake her hand if it wasn’t already occupied by the empty glass. Instead, the man waited patiently for her answer and wondered if her name was just as beautiful as her appearance.
Merek didn't react with more than a look as she had touched him and it was that action, or lack thereof, that actually caught her attention. Most men were so easy to manipulate, too easy. But this man was showing restraint and she found it a wonderful respite from the catcalling and butt grabbing and any of other things that she experienced on a day to day basis, even if she was often the one to encourage it. The extra tips were always worth it. But because of it, it made her really notice that this man had not done anything yet.
He gave her his name as Harbor smirked. "Oh may I?! You're giving me permission? That is so wonderfully generous!" She said in playful sarcasm. She began to step past him to get a refill for his drink but as she passed she leaned down slight to talk quietly at his level. "How very kind of you." She said. She then left him and walked to the bar, shooting back a smile at him as she left.
She was only gone a minute or two before she returned with his now full glass and set it back down on the table with the soft thud of glass on wood.
"So I was thinking, Merek." She said with a sweetly charming grin. "You want my name...but I think...that you need to earn it." She said, her tongue peeking out an curling out over her bottom lip as she flashed him a cute smile. Harbor loved playing games.
