The Acaedian/Toren war ended 6 years ago, leaving Elyria in a time of peace and prosperity. The Acaedian Emperor, Regulus Pontius, threw a festival to celebrate this time of peace. During the festival it was discovered that the High King of the Toren Islands, Emery Sparkfyre, had been assassinated along with several of his family members. This left his sister, Arabella Sparkfyre, as the new High Queen. Will she be able to handle the pressure of ruling the islands at such a young age? Will the other regions stand behind her? And who murdered the King?
In the weeks leading up to a solar eclipse a small number of people have discovered that they have powers that they never knew were even possible before. These people come from families who have been around for centuries, mostly of noble blood. Their powers are weak but as the eclipse nears they start to grow. There is fear in the land as people realize that magic is very much real. Will they use it for good or evil? And what about those common folk that think it’s an unnatural evil?
As the eclipse covers the land of Elyria in darkness, a plague creeps into the Wyraki realm, killing many including the Chieftain and much of his family; leaving the position of Chieftain and ruler open. Several have tried to take over but keep getting fought out by another, leaving the position unstable and the Wyraki people without a leader to pull them together. Chaos ensues.
A massive storm hits the Vanir Kingdom. Fierce winds rip down trees and destroy homes, heavy rain floods much of the land, and when lightening strikes it creates a fire that burns 1/4 of the Vanir Forests. In their vulnerable state, many Wyraki tribes (who no longer have a ruler to control them) have taken to pillaging the destroyed towns, making matters worse for the Vanir.
A Wyraki Priest is convinced that both the storm and plague were the cause of a curse. He and his followers are on a manhunt to find the sorcerer, they believe it's someone who is Vanir.
Will someone be able to claim the position of Chieftain and keep it? Was the plague and the storm really the cause of a curse? And if so, who conjured it?
