ELSPETH SARAID MARTELLI | TWENTY | VANIR/ACAEDIAN | NOMAD | SCARLETT JOHANSSON | ELE | AD ON PROBOARDS SUPPORT
TELEKINESIS Elspeth has the power of telekinesis, which means she is able to move objects with only her mind. This power, and abilities closely related to it, run on her mother's side of the family (the Vanir side). Many of her ancestors had this ability or a similar one- for example, other mental-based abilities such as telepathy, precognition, mediumship, etc.
The main thing that weakens Elspeth's ability is emotions. Because it is a mental-based ability, it is deeply connected to her core and often sets itself off whens he experiences anything other than baseline emotions. The worst types of emotions that affect her are negative ones such as fear, stress, or anger. Her ancestors of old used to be very strong and proficient in their abilities, but they were full-blooded Vanir, which was probably one of the main reasons why using their power came so easily to them. Elspeth has a difficult time harnessing and controlling hers. She will often get frustrated with herself for not being able to control her own power, which only makes matters worse. She'll also get terrible headaches from time to time as a result of the stress.
Though emotions can make Elspeth's ability very difficult to control, they can also make it easier depending on what they are. For example, if Elspeth is feeling happy or peaceful, she is much more able to control her powers and will find it a lot easier to find a focus. She will often meditate to find this happy, serene place in her mind.
| PERSONALITY | Elspeth is a mostly positive person, as she tries very hard to keep all her negative emotions under lock and key. She can be very stubborn and a bit cynical at times, and seems to hardly take anything seriously. She jokes around quite a bit and doesn't care for conflict. She likes to keep to her own company mostly because she feels as though she doesn't fit in with either culture that she is a part of. She considers herself to be broken in that sense, because she has never really been accepted by either side of her family, other than her parents. Because of this her self esteem is rather low, though she does not show it, and she often worries that she will never make friends or be able to truly fit in.
| HISTORY | Elspeth was born to a Vanir mother and a Acaedian father. Her parents fell in love young and were wed in secret. Her father was a merchant and entrepreneur, whose dream was to travel the world. He crossed into the lands of the Vanir, and met Elspeth's mother there. It was like love at first sight, though her family did not approve of her being with a non-Vanir. She ran away from home at the tender age of eighteen - with Elspeth's father being only twenty - and lived in the Acaedian Empire with her new husband. Elspeth was born within the same year and brought a light into the young couple's life where there had been some darkness - upon returning to his homeland, Elspeth's father was rejected by his own family as well, and the two felt very alone and lost. With the birth of their daughter, they found new hope to carry on in their life. They decided to give her Vanir names, but with her father's surname and an Acaedian naming pattern - that is, a first and a middle name. This way she would reflect both of her parents' cultures. In addition to this, they also taught her both of their languages, so Elspeth is bilingual.
When Elspeth was quite young, her power developed and it was clear that she was unable to control it like her mother and ancestors could before her. It was suspected that it was because her body was not able to handle the power correctly because she was only half-Vanir, and therefore had only inherited half the will to control it that the rest of her family had. This was only a speculation, but Elspeth took it to heart. She was closed off for much of her younger years, constantly worrying about endangering her parents with her ability, though her mother constantly tried to help her daughter with controlling it.
Finally, at the age of eighteen, Elspeth decided to leave home and become a nomad so that she could travel the world - she had many of the same interests as her father did when he was her age - and hopefully learn to control her power without causing harm to those she cared about. She still visits her parents often and writes them letters. She enjoys being in nature alone, however, which is undoubtedly a result her Vanir side speaking to her. This side of her has become stronger in the past two years. Elspeth is a vegetarian, and refuses to harm or kill animals. She prefers to live amongst them as equals. Even so, her hunting and gathering skills are incredible just as her ancestors' were, and she is very skilled with a bow and arrow (which she uses to get fruits from high-hanging trees and such as this, and not to kill).
| BONUS INFO | She can be put under Vanir, just because that's the sort of lifestyle she's living right now. Unless you want to make a different call - then it's totally fine! She doesn't personally identify as either, so it's really up to whoever reviews this in the end.
