It was a surprise to himself when he suggested going on a horseback ride with the King. It seemed surreal and as if he was hearing it from far away. Aurelius's eyes widened some as he heard himself say, while lounging on one of the many chairs in the King's study, "Why don't we drop all this work for a bit and go for a ride or something?" It was quite unlike himself to distance himself from work and even more unlike him to be the one suggesting it. Sure it wouldn't have been so strange if Abraxas had said something about it, pestering him to relax a bit. Aurelius was a certified workaholic and any kind of break made him feel like he was cheating the whole Kingdom. Yet he had offered and as he followed the King to the stables, found his horse, groomed, and saddled him, he only felt a little guilty.
The Hand to the King couldn't say he was thankful that the King had agreed though, it had been a while since he had taken a ride, and he missed it. Sitting atop his stallion, coat littered with black speckles on an otherwise white coat, he took in the view. It seemed like it went on for miles and the sun was only beating on him a tad bit, enough to warm his bones and not boil his blood.
Aurelius allowed himself to let out a breath, rolling his shoulders and relaxng his posture some. It had been a while since he relaxed, everything has felt like it was moving so fast. Taking a glance at Abraxas he found himself not exactly sure what to say to him, not exactly sure what topic to talk about. With another roll of his shoulders he shrugged it off. It was nice to sit in this comfortable silence. They had been great friends for many years and he knew once someone said something nothing would be able to shut them up for a while. And it only took a moment more for Aurelius to bite his lip, stifling a laugh as he looked to the King. "Do you remember the time we rode out here when we were little and your horse got spooked and took off with you? You were a terrified mess!" He teased lightly.

At Aurelius' suggestion Abraxas looked up at him and raised his eyebrows in surprise. He then smirked. "Are you feeling alright?" He asked teasingly. It was certainly unlike the Hand to suggest something that took him away from his beloved work. However, Brax wasn't about to say no. It had been some time since he'd gone on a ride with his friend and he was always happy to take a break from working.
He saddled his brown mare, her appearance and gender was usually enough to lure people into a sense of comfort which was exactly the point, but she was a great riding companion too and she had belonged to him since she was a filly.
Brax scoffed at Aurelius with a mocking offended tone. "Hey now! That was the first day I had ever been on a horse!" He retorted. "And now I'm way better than you'll ever be." He teased his friend.

It wasn't often that Aurelius got in such a teasing and playful mood, he'd crack a smile every now and then but his attitude was kept very even most of the time. Maybe it was the position of the stars, the temperature, or maybe even the way the grass was growing today, but Aure was definitely in a much different mood than usual. Either that or just being out and about with a good friend had him feeling more relaxed and at ease. No meetings, no errands, no deals to make, no business. Just a ride on his beloved horse with a good friend with no purpose of destination. It was nice.
With a chuckle and rolled his eyes. "Likewise my friend, and I was much younger than you," Five years doesn't seem like such a time jump now that they were older, but back then he was always struggling to keep up with the heir. He put a finger to his chin and scratched the hair there in fake thought, raising an eyebrow and pursing his lips. "Although, in your defense, I do think I remember that they had put me on a much older mare," He clicked his tongue at Brax's teasing. "Oh really? You think so? Or has no one been brave enough to tell you otherwise?" He teased back, mirth glistening in his eyes.

Yes, their age difference had mattered much more back then and perhaps in some ways Brax still saw Aurelius as that little boy, though that didn't happen often these days, especially with how much better the man was at serious matters than the King. There were also definitely moments in which Brax forgot that the Hand was younger as he behaved in a way that certainly older and more mature than Abraxas.
He laughed as the man teased him. "Probably the latter." He joked back. He imagined there were plenty of people who simply said things to him whether there were true or not because he was the King. Brax realized it sometimes but it definitely went over his head a lot too, especially if it was what he wanted to hear. "So what has you in such a fine mood, my friend?" He asked. "Is it a lady?" He said with a playful smirk and eyebrow raise. Heavens knew that at 39 years old, his Hand really needed a woman in his life.

Aurelius was glad the King was taking this all in good humor. Although he expected he would have. It was easy to tease, easy to joke like this. Abraxas was the only one he ever really spoke this way to, odd being that he was held at such high respects. But the two had been around each other long enough that Abraxas didn't really feel higher up than him. Of course he knew what status his friend held and of course there were times when he really showed off his title. Yet in moments like this he didn't feel like he was riding next to some King, and that being said he often forgot how high his own ranking was as well.
At the mention of his mood he stiffened some, glancing at Abraxas and giving a light chuckle. "Am I not allowed to be in a good mood? You know it only happens once in a blue moon, let me cherish it." Aurelius said with a teasing lilt to his voice before shaking his head and waving him off. "And you know I'm to busy to keep any woman happy, I'm to occupied with looking after you." He ended with a laugh, turning back to enjoy the view. Absently chewing on his lip, he wondered if he should tell Abraxas about Lucia whom he met in the gardens. They both knew of her and so he didn't think much of it. Aurelius considered that maybe their meeting could have had an impact on his mood but he couldn't reason why. It was just a meeting, they spoke and it was nice but nothing out of the ordinary. She had hurt herself in the Gardens and he helped make sure she was okay and safe. Nothing out of the ordinary and just a noble thing to do really. He decided if Abraxas didn't push him about it he should wait to tell his friend because there wasn't all that much to tell...

Honestly it was the slight stiffness in his demeanor that made Brax think that perhaps his friend was not telling the whole truth. He raised a brow and looked at him curiously, letting him know that he wasn't sure whether to believe him or not. However, he didn't ask for more details. If it was something that he needed to know, especially in his position as King, then he knew that Aurelius would tell him.
He gave a small chuckle as the man joked with him about looking after him. They rode on a bit in silence before Brax spoke again. "You are...getting on in years my friend." He said, slightly teasing, but also serious. "And a woman is good for the soul. You should make time for it, try to meet a pretty girl to help...lighten your load." The last part with both truthful mixed with playful innuendo. "Have you ever even been with a woman?" He asked with a grin. Was there a chance his Hand could still possibly have not even done the deed? Surely not.

Aureluis wondered now if maybe he should have mentioned the girl to his friend. But he quickly reminded himself that there wasn't all that much of a need to. He would tell him if things got more serious of course, yet nothing of great importance had happened yet. Besides, Brax had more important things to take care of and put his thoughts into rather than his love life.
With a playful scoff and a light blush dusting is cheek bones, he rode close enough to push the King's shoulder lightly. "You're absolutely vile!" He laughed in response to his reasoning behind having a woman. On a more serious note, he knew he was getting older in age, and it worried him quite a bit. He would love to have someone to come home to, to spend his time with. He shook his head, scratching the back of his neck. "Yes I know... I'll take it more seriously, try to make more time for it," He said a bit absently before chuckling low in his chest. "I'm sure you're very concerned. What would happen to your precious Kingdom without my bloodline keeping it in order," He teased.
Now, Aurelius wasn't someone who was easily caught off guard. He's been in battles, in negotiations, in meetings among royalties and he always came prepared for any possible outcome. Yet the question Brax had asked him after a pause in their conversation had his eyebrows raised. He cleared this throat some, a bashful smile on his almost red face. "Yes of course I have," he was quick to say. "Although... Only with a few women, probably years ago." He answered honestly, rubbing at his chin, only a lot embarrassed by his answer.

Abraxas wasn't always crude but he certainly could be when he was in the mood for it, though usually not in a very blunt way. Aurelius would be more familiar with this behavior than most give how close they were and that they were both men. He wouldn't talk to a lady like that...or not usually anyway, and if he did it was most often in the bedroom.
He smile as his friend teased him. Perhaps getting a girl wasn't too high on this list of important things to do on a day to day basis, but Brax was of the strong opinion that having a companion greatly improved one's life. As well as regular sexual activities.
He saw how embarrassed Aurelius had gotten because of his question but Brax just grinned, he didn't regret asking him, though his friend's answer halted the next question he was considering asking, which would have been whether it was the gentler sex of the ladies that he was even interested in.
"You know there is brothel not far from the palace. I can give you some excellent recommendations." He said, half teasing.
