| PERSONALITY |
Coinneach is a very cheery person by nature and was born with an abundance of charm and a devilish grin to match. With this charm and cheerfulness, he has the means to draw people to him whether they be a potential mark or a future accomplice. While the charm can draw people in, Coinneach has a way of working situations to his advantage, creating debts for people to pay off to him. This way of trading favors and keeping deals civil is why he currently holds the title for leader of the thieves.
While seemingly genial and well-meaning, Coinneach is always on the lookout for a good mark. The guild is always on his mind, because keeping the guilds coffer full means that he is more likely to remain the leader. Some have called him underhanded, but he looks out for his own as best he can. He remembers being hungry, and doesn’t want to feel like that ever again. He also despises deadly violence, as a dead mark provides no further income. This does not mean he is unable defend himself though. Tending to carry a leather billy club and a sharp dagger for backup, Coinneach tries to keep the physical altercations to the bar room.
| HISTORY |
Coinneach was born on Tartus to his mother Niamh. She raised the boy on her own, showing him how to pickpocket and use his words as well as smile to contribute to their joint survival. His mother is still a large part of his life, keeping him as informed as she can since he has far more ears around the city now. For years though, Coinneach and his mother survived by themselves. It wasn’t until Coinneach was about 10 that local thieves began to take note of the child since he had begun to ruin some of their plots. Their first idea was to run the pair out, but after much convincing from Coinneach, they allowed them to stay and pay nearly half of whatever coin they made to be allowed to stay.
For a long while they accepted, until they felt Coinneach was old enough and wise enough to actually join them proper and make them decent money. He took to the trade like a fish in water, his charm and smile earning him favor since he had far less chance of being violent and alerting anyone. Becoming a favored member of the guild had its benefits, but also came with a few people stuck in their old ways. On the tail of a mark, through a string of bad luck, the mark noticed Coinneach and struck him. The incident left him with a scar on his shoulder, but nothing more than a small wound and hurt pride to walk off.
Keeping the attack fresh in his mind for future marks, he set everything he had into becoming one of the best pickpockets in the guild as well as the smoothest talker around. While able to hone his hands into dexterous and nimble filching tools, the smooth talk only seemed to come with age, which also brought about his ability to cooperate with other members of the guild. Forming a ragtag team of accomplices, Coinneach and his group began to push through the ranks within the guild, showing the pros of working together to do a job rather than doing everything solo. Being noticed by the leader didn’t hurt the groups work, and put them into the spotlight.
After working his way up the ranks, Coinneach began to meddle into the merchant trade to give the guild a public face, allowing them to set up a trade route on the sea. Which allowed them a new avenue to hock stolen goods and acquired items out of sight of the original owners. Mainly trading in rumors and secrets, the wares on the store shelves were kept to common things such as dried goods, bolts of cloth, clothing, and blank paper and ink. A few books could be found on occasion but always kept to things common folk would want as to dissuade any eyes that lingered too long on the people inside the store.
With the store success, and a few other small setups to his name, it was decided that Coinneach would replace the guild leader when the man stepped down. It took seven years for the man to finally become feeble enough to choose to step down, but Coinneach was patient. Some jobs just took a bit of patience, and this was no exception.
